Lootcase Director Rajesh Krishnan Says, ‘I Want To Start A New Franchise’-EXCLUSIVE
Rajesh Krishnan, who directed last year’s sleeper-hit, Lootcase, featuring Kunal Kemmu and Rasika Duggal, says that remakes aren’t something he wants to attempt. “Remakes are not my cup of tea. You have to be very gutsy to say I can better a masterpiece and I don’t have that. Someone’s work shouldn’t be tampered with unless you truly and entirely share their vision. Also, if you don’t have anything fresh to say about the story, don’t do it. For a producer, it makes sense as it has a commercial angle to it but from my perspective, I have many original stories to tell and if I die before telling them, my soul will haunt the earth forever,” he laughs.

Before Lootcase, Rajesh had a successful career as an ad filmmaker that he followed with the web series, TVF Tripling, featuring Sumeet Vyas, Maanvi Gagroo, and Amol Parashar. And it was the show’s success that gave Rajesh confidence to work on stories that lasted over 30 seconds. “All I had done before Tripling were ads, and a fear had set in me that maybe I don’t know how to tell a story for over 30 seconds. That fear went away after Tripling. It opened a few doors in my mind that I didn’t think existed,” he recalls, adding that here he got to play with a bigger canvas and realised that the graph had to be a little gradual.

Rajesh didn’t work on the second season of Tripling, but would he be interested in carrying the franchise forward with a third season? “Tripling 3 would be very interesting, but I think there are so many more stories for me to say that I have grown up with, subjects I have sat and conceived in the dramatic, espionage and thriller space, stories spanning across 9000 years to stories that are socially relevant that no one has yet tapped into. I want to start a new franchise and tell a story that I believe can go into a trilogy,” he asserts.

Ask Rajesh about what is he working on currently and he informs, “I am working on four stories at the moment. One of them is with a big production house and we have been working on that for last seven-eight months. There have been actors who have been interested in that, and those things might be worked out in a month’s time. I am also working on something with my Lootcase co-writer Kapil Sawant. As for the other two subjects, I am still contemplating whether they should be developed into web series or feature films. I am also reading a lot of books right now that have a potential of turning into a series or a film,” he signs off.
